THIS WEEK'S TOPIC: The Successful New Mother
Greetings!

Last week I was all set to start my week with a bang. I have been doing a lot of extra work on house renovations and was anxious to catch up on a bunch of business tasks. However, my little guy came down with croup and he ended up staying home all week instead of doing his normal childcare routine. Change of plans!

So, I reshuffled priorities and let go of my expectations. Flexibility is vital throughout motherhood but non-Matt energy!negotiable as a new mother. As one of my favorite mommy gurus, registered nurse and personal childbirth trainer Diane Ellen puts it,  “Successful new moms are the ones who put all their expectations and their Superwoman costume in the cupboard. They keep the negatives to a minimum and do the best they can.

Too contagious to go to daycare, but still had full on Matt energy!

YOUR COACHING Moment

The Successful New Mother

Of course ALL new mothers are successful. They are holding a baby in their arms - that's all that matters.

However, there are some moms who move through those first months with a little extra ease and grace. It's  usually about perspective and priorities. A way of being instead of focusing on a lot of doing. You are going to treasure the first months of being a new mother no matter what, but it IS possible to maximize your fulfillment and balance in the intensity that is new motherhood.

Consider these tips from successful new mothers ...

  • relax & stay positive
  • practice excellent self care
  • create space
  • be willing to learn
  • trust your instincts
  • create a support network
  • remember you are amazing

You will have your own ways of being that will help you be at your best as a new mother. Embrace everything that enhances your joy with the most challenging job you will ever have!

COACH YOURSELF: Think about what will help your success as a new mother. Make a cheat sheet and post it right where you will be changing your little one's diapers!
