| Marvelous Mothers! Many of my coaching conversations with mothers are around "doing it all." It’s the old question of how to balance all the pieces of your life as a woman and mother. I happen to be in the midst of revisiting my balance as I look ahead to the fall. My little boy Matt starts a new parent/child coop preschool which will require a significant time All the best from your coach, Matt at his current preschool - part of "my all" |

| Doing It All So, when I look at how any of us can juggle "Doing It All," I think part of the answer is how you decide at any given stage of motherhood – what your “all” looks like. It's about being purposeful and conscious. You look at what works for YOUR family, your values, and your goals at this moment. The media and people generally discuss the doing it all issue in the context of what kind of mom you are. People like to label mothers: "stay-at-home mom", "working mom" or lately the new labels "working from home mom" or "mompreneur." The thing is, the labels don’t stick. Our roles aren’t static. Most mothers I know are constantly evolving. I know moms who are home with their baby for the first year, go back to their old job and then three years later start their own business. I know moms who went right back to work and then decided to stay home a few years later when their second or third child arrived. I know moms who trade off with their husbands – working a year or two and then tag teaming and staying home for a year. So many women today are fluid – things are shifting and changing constantly. As I mentioned, I'm shifting right now. I've been a full-time mompreneur the last few years but finding that my son & I need more of each other. At first, I thought that I could just juggle faster and do it all. I planned to keep working full time along with a new six to seven hour weekly commitment to Matt's preschool. And just thinking ahead to the fall, my stress level was rising and there was a lot of lying awake at 3am not able to sleep nights. That’s when I knew I had to take it back to basics. To stop and ask yet again, what is my “all?” When I sat down and really looked into my heart, not my ego – I came up with this: My all is having permission to explore this new phase with Matt without stress and exhaustion. My all is to continue to build my businesses but knowing that I don’t have to do all of my ideas today or even next year. My all is to actively nurture my marriage and my stepdaughters. And my all is to make and enjoy time with my parents while I can because they are 70 and 80 years old. Consequently, I’ve decided to cut back to part-time working hours for the next year and see how it goes. All of a sudden, doing it all doesn’t look so hard! So, I want you to think about what is most important to you at this stage of motherhood and life. What does your “all” really look like? What are you including in “doing it all” that might not belong anymore? That isn’t really necessary? That isn’t aligned with your values and your heart? I support YOUR definition of doing it all. COACH YOURSELF: Take out a piece of paper and write down a new definition of what doing it all might mean for you. I challenge you to try it on for size!
