THIS WEEK'S TOPIC: Create A Little Space
Empowered Mothers!

Oh, my never ending task list! It is staggering how much time it takes to run a house and care for a family. I spend so much time on maintenance - all those tasks that happen again and again. It often seems like I have no time left for just hanging out with my boy, my husband or myself. That is when I remind myself that I do have a choice and can quit Matt and Mommy taking a breaktrying to do it all, all the time.

This week's topic is all about how to Create A Little Space in your life. Scroll down to Your Coaching Moment to hear more and try it for yourself.

All the best from your coach,

YOUR COACHING Moment

Create A Little Space

I coach mothers of all ages & stages. One of the common problems I encounter is moms never having enough time. It seems like the list of things to do is always much longer than the time to do it all. One of my favorite tricks for mothers and for myself is what I call "expanding your time frame." It works like this:

1. Pick something from your home/family task list - grocery shopping, cooking dinner, cleaning the bathrooms, taking your kids to one of their activities, exercising, etc.

2. Think about how often you do that task or should do that task. Is it daily? Weekly? Monthly?

3. Now, expand the time frame. Take how often you normally do it & push out the time frame. If you clean the bathrooms every few days, push it out to once a week. If you cook dinner every night - expand the time frame so you are only cooking every other night. If you chauffeur your kids daily to activities, consider that you are only available twice a week.

4. The trick is that you might need to do a bit of creative thinking to expand the time frame. If your bathroom gets a little gross after a few days, leave a box of Clorox wipes on the counter & teach everyone how to clean up after themselves. Sit down with your partner/kids and brainstorm what shared cooking duty might look like. Ask about carpooling possibilities for kid activities. And so on.

5. Try your expanded time frame for a few weeks & make sure to use your newly acquired space to do something close to your heart.

The neat thing is that expanding the time frame gives you permission to question your "must do" list, relax your standards, and realize that you might not have to do it all by yourself.

COACH YOURSELF: Go ahead and try the steps above. Take a piece of paper & jot down something from your task list and experiment with expanding the time frame. Pick just one thing AND try it for a few weeks.
