| Mamas! Last week I found myself getting very impatient with my little guy, Matt. My frustration threshold was low and I was short and snappy way too often - my impatience kept making everything worse. What I know is patience is an invaluable commodity as a mother. It’s magical – a sprinkle of patience, like scattering fairy dust, immediately All the best from your coach, Doing a puzzle - an exercise in patience! |

| Patience Patience has never been one of my strengths – I’ve been working on growing patience for a long, long time. As I said, a sprinkle of patience is like scattering fairy dust, immediately improving almost any situation. Think about who you are as a mom when you are filled with patience. Close your eyes and picture yourself being truly patient in a typical challenging situation. Think of how your body feels when you are patient. The energy you put out. The words you use. The impact you have when you are patient. Now think about when you are impatient. Picture yourself when you are at your most impatient as a mom. Notice the difference in your body and energy. Notice the difference in what comes out of your mouth and the impact on everyone around you. For some reason I just thought of when I’m impatient in a grocery store line or at a stoplight. That keyed up, jerky, single-minded energy. I don’t notice anyone around me – I’m completely self-absorbed. I miss out on so much when I’m impatient – I miss out on connecting with those around me, I miss out on what’s going right, I miss out on contentment. So, I want you to think of where you need some patience in your life as a woman and mother – what is a situation where you are feeling really impatient? Picture it & hold that it in your mind. Here is your bag of patience fairy dust. Check out the following dictionary definitions of patience and choose the one that resonates for you. 1. quietness or self-possession of one’s own spirit; 2. calmness, self-control; 3. endurance, acceptance, submission, uncomplaining; 4. good-natured tolerance of delay or incompetence; 5. calmly or contentedly waiting for something hoped for Take the definition that most struck you – that rang a bell for you. And ask yourself, "How can I bring that to my situation?" Like, what would you do differently if you have calmness and self-control when your toddler refuses to get ready for bed? Or what would it look like if you have good-natured tolerance of delay or incompetence in getting your teenagers to help around the house? Or how would you be if you are calmly or contentedly waiting for something hoped for – for successfully conceiving your second child? Or how can you have quietness or self-possession of your own spirit in facing your child’s illness and recovery process? The magic is in the perspective shift. In letting the words of the definition move you to another view. To see new possibilities, find fresh words, and act in a different way.
