Greetings! Every so often I have the privilege of interviewing one of the mothers out there that inspires me. Someone who is following her passion, staying true to herself and bringing her best to motherhood. One such woman is Stacy Denney – mother of Ryan (9 months) and Max (2 years) and owner of Barefoot & Pregnant in Marin County, California. Scroll down to Your Coaching Moment to read Stacy’s reflections on balancing our kids with the rest of who we are. All the best from your coach, Amy with her son, Matthew

Here is a snippet from my conversation with Stacy. As you read, notice what thoughts come as you take in what is true for Stacy. Amy: As a mother it often does feel like you are wearing your heart outside your body. This huge love, vulnerability and responsibility - how do you function with that? Stacy: I function by remembering that in the end, I know I will do anything for my boys, for the rest of their lives. This is a life long commitment. I know I can’t be with them constantly – it’s all about deciding where to set the balance, where to draw my line so that I can sustain the pace and my commitment. Mothers are amazing. I have such respect for the absolute responsibility we hold for these other human beings. Not just their safety but raising them to be good people. I want my boys to be good men, to respect others … to respect women. So I let myself be okay that I need to be me too – I’m important too. I want my boys to know that. It’s so vital to know that we are whole people and to model that to our kids. Bottom line, I am a better mother and wife if I am happy as a woman. Stacy has created a balance that is right for her. Each of us has the responsibility to determine our own ideal balance between our children, husband or partner, relationships, passions, career and self. COACH YOURSELF: What thoughts do you have at this moment? What is the right balance for YOU? Take five minutes and draw a circle – divide it into slices for the different parts of you and your life. Play with the balance between these parts and feel for what would be ideal for you. Email me at amy@empoweredmotherhood.com to share your ideal balance!
